On the loooooong drive from Yabello to Addis, we once again stayed overnight in Awassa. The first day of the trip was hard on me. I managed to get dehydrated and overheated and had a little pity party for myself that night in Awassa. Thank goodness for my sweet husband who took care of Cora while I napped and rehydrated before dinner. After a good meal and sleep, I was feeling tons better the next day.
And thank goodness for that, because on the second day of the trip, Birhanu wanted to show us a swimming beach along the way at Langano Lake in the Rift Valley.
We arrived at the Sabana Resort about 10am on Saturday, and Birhanu and our driver, Alex, both quickly changed into their swimsuits and started climbing down the cliff stairs to the lake level. We followed behind once we explored the lovely resort grounds and lodge a bit (and dug our own suits out of the luggage).

This is one of the few lakes that is bilharzia-free, and there are several resorts along its rock-and-sand lined beaches. The water is cold and dusty brown, but free of weeds. According to our guide book, there are areas of the lake that are home to crocs and hippos, but we didn't even see any fish. At our little beach, the resort had several row boats and kayaks for rent, and a swimming area with a water slide and beach balls.

After swimming and sandcastle building for a couple hours (all good practice for Zanzibar), we had a great fish lunch in the beautiful lodge up on the cliffs.
