First days with Silas

Silas was born on a Saturday afternoon, and we went home by 6pm on Sunday.

Leaving the hospital
When we got home that night, we celebrated a "Big Sister" party, an idea shared with us by Erin (thank you!). The party was made even more special by the fact that my parents were both in town, Jimbo having just arrived for the weekend.

To celebrate Silas' arrival and Cora's new status as the Big Sister, Gigi Cora and I had made a "Big Sis" sign and hats for all partygoers. Gigi made carrot cake cupcakes with Cora's help while we were in the hospital with Silas.

Silas is about 26 hours old in this photo
Here is Cora still wearing a Big Sis party hat the next morning at breakfast:

These are some pretty proud grandparents:

As of today, Silas is doing very well. He is a champion eater and sleeper, and rarely cries. At his doctor's appointment yesterday, the nurse was impressed that he is almost back to his birth weight at four days old. For me, nursing has been a breeze this time compared to the first time around.

Each day, Mr. Silas is becoming more alert and focusing on our faces and objects all around him. He smiles and wiggles a lot in his sleep, and "talks" to us in little squawks when he's looking at our faces. He has very long feet and hands -- while his body fits into newborn-sized outfits, his feet are too long for the footy pajamas of that size! So he's already wearing a lot of 0-3 month sizes. We expect him to be out of the newborn-sized diapers pretty quickly, too, as they already seem a bit tight on his legs.

Cora is making the transition to life as not-the-only-kid with the expected ups and downs. She really loves the baby and still wants to hold him and kiss him regularly, but we also see the occasional spurt of jealousy. This morning, she experienced "Time Out" for the first time after swatting Silas. Interesting times ahead...
