Camping with Braeburn friends

Cora has a group of girlfriends whose parents and families also get along well, and some of us decided to do a camping trip together. Part of the inspiration is that Rameen's sisters, Amna and Saaba, have never camped in Kenya and wanted to try. The plan started as an all-girls trip (Yula's dad Phil hates camping; Nate was in the field for research; Evie's dad Andy was busy with work too), but soon expanded.

We went to Sanctuary Farm, our go-to beginner camping site. Sara, Greg, Damian and Felix decided to join us, and we met up with Ana, Edu, Arnau and Jana from ILRI by accident. So we were a big group!

Front LtoR: Arnau with Edu, Yula, Damian and Kecho (dog), Cora, Mona (dog), Silas, Evie

We arrived at lunchtime on Saturday and set up camp outside the Acacia Fever campsite, which was already crowded. The kids played at camp for a while.

Later, the kids went for a horseback ride.

Damian shared a ride with Silas for a few minutes.

While the kids rode horses, some of us took the dogs for a walk and discovered the animals were much more aggressive than we have ever seen toward the dogs. A group of wildebeest chased Sara's dog, Kecho, while a bachelor herd of Grant's gazelle snorted and stood their ground with Mona. It was actually a bit scary.
