PacNW - On the Djeneba

We had another spectacular (to use Janet's word) trip to the Pacific Northwest this summer. We really went all in this time -- we were gone from home from July 30-August 23. For a week and a half of that trip, we were aboard the Djeneba in the Broughtons and heading south to the San Juans.

Hello from the Djeneba!
On Aug 11, we flew from Vancouver BC to Port Hardy, BC. Mom and Dad picked us up at the airport in a shuttle van and here we arriving in Port McNeill at the northern tip of Vancouver Island, where Djeneba awaited us.

We made it!
First thing's first -- try out the captain's chair:

Later that evening, Janet and Peter arrived along with my parents' friends, Pam and Jack Cooper. Then it was time to play.

Driving the dinghy
We started shrimping and crabbing right away, and had luck with the shrimp.

We headed to to Echo Bay, and really got into the pirate-themed pig roast party on Saturday evening:
The Djeneba crew for the week -- Janet & Peter, Pam and Jack Cooper, and us
Pierre and his pig. Arrrrgh

Next up: Sullivan Bay of the deepwater docks and green waters. We also started to get some good weather at that point.

Kayaking with the kids
While Nate and I fished for halibut off the docks, these guys went out to check to the pots
The nightly tradition at Sullivan Bay is a potluck appetizer gathering and then golf shots off the dock. Closest and farthest to the pin win a cinnamon bun from the restaurant. Also the closest to the garbage dock. Our boat took all the awards this night: Silas won the farthest to the pin; I won closest to the garbage dock; Peter won closest to the pin!

I was so proud that Silas was brave enough to just try this,
despite the 20+ strangers watching!
On our second fishing trip, we hit it big!  Our trusty fishing guide, Jimbo, was so happy to finally get some fish after a dry season up to that point. Everyone we met on the trip said it was a tough fishing season. But not for us!!

Yay
We learned to filet our own salmon on the dock
Also at Sullivan Bay: dock manager Mike's saltwater aquarium, and an invitation to contribute to it

Crabs to donate to the Sullivan Bay dock's aquarium
Next up: Lagoon Bay
Swings in the woods
Keeping a lookout for bears on the Lookout Trail with these nuts

In transit - another beautiful day
