hoolaa - ni: sheep
sarree -ni: dog (cuquu = puppy)
qaturee -ni: cat (not common, also the nickname for someone with an ugly face)
arba -i: elephant
jaldeessa -i: baboon
hiddii -ni: Thomson's gazelle
tarrii -ni: dikdik, tiny antelope
goljaa - ni: warthog
gedala -ti: fox, jackal
gargarakaatoo -ni: bush baby (small primate), galago
deeroo -ni: cheetah
qeeramsa -i: leopard
waraabessa -i: hyena, also called tortora, the stinker
darafeessa -i: spotted hyena (the largest and most dangerous)
warseesa -i: rhinoceros
awwaaldiiduu -ni: anteater (also the word for "gravedigger". Borana fear them because they believe if a person sees an anteater, they will die).
guchii -ni: ostrich
urunguu - ni: owl
qottoo -ni: hornbill bird
risaa -ni: eagle, large bird of prey
qarcoo -ni: lizards in general, including geckos
gararra -ni: chameleon
raacha -i: frog, toad; person or animal with swollen stomach
buutii -ni: puff adder snake
jawwee -ni: python
